New Five-year Grant Opportunity to Increase Access to Health Care and Preventative Care Programs

Earlier this month, the CDC announced nearly $51 million in federal funding for the Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) Program. This five-year program will provide funding to communities to improve health, prevent chronic diseases, and reduce health disparities among racial and ethnic populations with the highest risk, or burden, of chronic disease. Funding can be used to support culturally tailored interventions to address preventable risk behaviors (tobacco use, poor nutrition and physical inactivity), linking community and clinical efforts to increase access to health care and preventive care programs. Applications are due no later than July 16, 2018, and final awards will be announced in September. For more information about applying, see the notice of funding opportunity (NOFO) here.

New Grant Opportunity to Support Tribal Organizations Addressing the Opioid Crisis

On Thursday, June 21, SAMHSA announced it is accepting applications for up to $50 million in federal funding for Tribal Opioid Response Grants. These grants, which will go to tribes and tribal organizations, will help address the opioid crisis in tribal communities by increasing access to culturally-appropriate evidence-based treatment, including medication-assisted treatment, in an effort to reduce unmet treatment needs and opioid overdose-related deaths. Applications are due no later than August 20, 2018, and final awards will be announced in October. For more information about applying, see the funding opportunity announcement (FOA).
